08 international cummins isx starts up runs for about 10 sec. then will shutter and die the primer pump is working but when it dies the fuel will return back into the fuel/water separator toping it off completely is there a check valve that could be defective and high pressure pump that went out?

Sounds like maybe bad gear pump, or it is sucking air once it gets going. Check the line that goes behind the ECM cooling plate to ensure it is tight and not sucking air too.
