Hi guys, I think i need to change my turbo. It is leaking oil for some time now and I have a lot of vgt related codes too. Truck has 700,000 miles and i think it is time for it. I was quoted by local cumins for turbo HE561VE $3600 reman + $1000 actuator. It seems a bit o a high end for me. Any other options to buy turbo? Maybe it is possible to send it to some reputable shop for a rebuild?
I can get the same turbo for 3100 and under 500 for the actuator at my local peterbilt Shop. Just Shop around and see who has the best prices. And if I remember right Dr isx on here can get remans for cheaper from a supplier that he knows
If i remember correctly, gearhead will rebuild one for$1500 with 1 yr warranty.
I thought rebuild is not very reliable, but if people do rebuild turbos, maybe I could do it myself? I rebuilt successfully quite a bit of things in the past. So maybe it an option? Thanks

I called Freightliner in NJ and get almost same pricing. I would try to call out of state, OH or PA. NJ I think have fixed the price )) Thanks for advice, I was about to spend $4600, but now will keep looking!
$3100.00 Cummins in Dallas for turbo.
Thanks for pointing me out in a right direction. So far I find a reman turbo for 3100 and still looking for a better price. But at that point I think that maybe rebuilding turbo myself is an option? On internet I have found different opinions.. One guy mentioned that he went that far as shipping his turbo overseas to rebuild. Unfortunately when I asked how much it cost him and if rebuild was a good one I got no answer.. What is your opinion?
Try this outfit, they have a good reputation from what I have heard. They are here in Detroit, hope this helps.
