Hey guys.. truck has boost, pulls strong, no codes.. but bad squeal on hard acel, and above 20psi boost. Sounds like a balloon releasing air slowly... You know, when u do that as a kid to make noise..
Put boot on turbo, hecked for boost leak at 40psi shop air, no squeal. Turbo seems to have normal amount of play, not leaking any oil into air charge. My 99th guess is that leak is between x manifold and turbo. Anything else that I should check.? I'm waiting for truck to col down atm. Ty
I think your 99th guess will be correct. You could always pressurize the whole engine and find it like that.
On closer look, I see aluminium powder on turbo vane...
Uh oh

Pull the compressor housing off and post some pictures of both ends. I'm leaning towards CAC boots or manifold/turbo mtg gasket.
Yea, it's the gasket. One rear nut was missing, other was finger tight. One front nut was tight, other looks like it was replaced with a bolt which somehow was bent. Had to use universal wrench to get it off. Anyways, metal gasket was blown to the rear(backside next to engine). I have a few specs of aluminium powder on impeller. This thing has 575,000 on it. Go ahead and replace turbo while it's off or run it..?

he had a local shop replace only the head on it?, at 500+ k miles,.. no counter-bore, not pistons/rod bushings, no proper bottom end work...

He has found issues with improperly torqued and improperly installed bolts and missing nuts, etc..

I do not see his egine lasting too long before it will need a complete inframe due to the half-arssed work seen + no one raising liners and counter-boring it while head was off it.

I hope you got that extra $20k to do it all again in the bank for that day when it starts pushing coolant out of the top of the coolant tank because it is the expected results in its near future for the half--arssed repair you had done. When this happens.. YOU WILL ALSO ABSOLUTELY NEED ANOTHER NEW HEAD TOO! - because those liner(s) are going to etch the bottom of it when it happens and ruin it.
