Same set up I have, I don't care too much for the gearing, especially with what I do, 3:70 would be much better running city and regional. But, if you are going to be mostly hwy, the 18 speed gives you more versatility in regards to speed and fuel economy. If you want to run 60 and keep the rpm up in the sweet spot, I will run her in low 9 (low side of top gear). Or, if I do need to roll, the power and gearing is there. It has it's plus and minus. You just have to watch it in the hilly or mountainous country, you will be doing some down shifting to keep from lugging the motor.

Myself, I love the 18 speed, getting harder to find out here.

What is your ratio on your truck Rawze?

Also my oil pressure gets lower when I idle and then goes up when I am driving or I rev the engine.

He’s saying running in the top gear at 60-65 will turn too low of an rpm, lugging the engine, causing vibration, thus fretting liners. I have read up in this because I have one of those spec’d to abuse the engine in the lower RPM range trucks he’s talking about. I always run in a lower gear, keeping me in the 1400 and up range. I’ll put it in overdrive sometimes if I’m light and out west on flat ground. If this were my old early 90’s outlaw days I have have a bad ass triple digit truck the way this is geared. I could put it in the big hole at 80+ mph lol.

Like JMBT says, a truck with 3.55 rears is the the ratio you want if your a 65 mph guy.

You do need to know how to drive it. I love my 18 speed, because I can split those gears to find the right RPM to match the conditions. But, I have to agree with Rawze, the 18 and combined with the 3:42's will tear up the liners if you get lazy on the shifts or ride around in top gear at 55 mph.

And when I do my boxes, I am doing a gear swap. The 3:42's are going bye bye.

Once you get out of the low range, a 13 and 18 are identical., just mentioning it for those who may not know.

Yup. That’s right. I wouldn’t limit myself with a 13 if I had choice of 13 or 18. If you don’t need the extra in the low hole just skip through the direct gears then split the high. But them heavy loads I like the extra in low to.

I haul fuel and would be hauling around 75,000 lbs most of the time. What would be the perfect truck for that?

There really isn't a "perfect" truck? but there are a lot of "wrong" trucks, just avoid heading there. Along with engine, trans, rears? remember your spending a lot of time in and around the truck ...it becomes a family member .....buy something you ...like?

Found a 2014 Freightliner cascadia for 53000$ with 440000 miles DD15, 10 spd. What's your thought about that truck?

what rears? - not worth a damn if it has tall, engine abusing rears.

It has a 2.64 ratio. What would be a good set up with that engine and transmission?

Was looking at a 2014 Freightliner Colombia glyder from Schneider. Called and asked who did the work on it and was told it was Clark Power.does anyone know about his work?
