Viper can we get your address? Would love to visit you sometime.....Where I can get a close look at this coach you have here....

ALso anytime a valve is damaged NEVER REUSE injector

Wow! Don't know what to say to this one... I would leave his account active, he might just learn something. He has no clue who any of us are, especially Rawze and his background, which I know first hand, and what he has done for myself and others.

Myself, I posted about my issues with my truck, after dropping $40,000 in CASH on an in frame at a Cummins shop. Turns out they really F'd up my in frame. Rawze called me within five minutes of posting that I need another in frame and invited me to his house, the fat guy in the videos.... He and his family welcomed me with open arms, not even knowing me, a total stranger that was a member of his website.

Rawze assisted me in rebuilding my motor, in his driveway. He fed me, supplied adult beverages, fed me like a KING, God the man can cook... And I can never repay him for what he did for me.

Turns out the Cummins shop installed all of the wrong parts, it took nearly two months to get the parts sent from the dealer to fix their "mistake", $14,000 in parts. Then we hit a solid month of rain, every stinking day... I lived with Rawze and his family, his wife was dying of cancer at that same time, and they went above and beyond to make me comfortable when I was looking at losing everything, just as he was. Zen was a good woman.

Poke fun at the man, insult him, insult us, you are truly a little man. I hope you stick around, maybe you will learn something, like how to be a MAN.

bahh... Just another brainwashed, typical social medai narcissist. Guess he didn't actually want any help from here but to find a reason to troll everyone instead.

Makes me glad he showed his true colors so quickly so that the rest of everyone on here did not have to suffer that jr. high-school level of stupidity that I had to remove.

I think they have pills for those types of mental disorders these days. Maybe he should talk to his doctor.

Agree on the narcissist... They seem to be everywhere, and he failed miserably! LOL!

...

If a piston had marks in it like that due to contaminants in the combustion chamber on my own engine, I would be seriously concerned about the composite coating on the piston being damaged. This could eventually lead to combustion gasses eating a hole thru that piston after a while. This could leave chance to a more serious engine failure down the road.

Just food for thought.

- As far as the missing piece of metal pop-corn .... Only way to know it is not going to do even more damage is to ensure it is not somewhere in the egr cooler, exhaust manifold, etc. - would be a shame if it were to lodge itself in the exhaust vanes of the turbo. The proper thing to do would be to pull the entire system apart and clean it all out thoroughly instead of gambling it on a $4,000 turbo replacement in the future.

Would also be a good idea to open the valves and inspect the valve seats on that cylinder using a boroscope. Also to apply 30 psi of air pressure on the intake manifold with all rockers removed/ valves closed and see if there is any leak-down losses thru the closed valve seats. Then do the same for the exhaust side of it. Last thing anyone would want is a burnt/cracked valve later on because combustion gasses were escaping due to a ding/deformation in one of the vavles or its seats.

Is it me or did we have another thread started similar to this a few years back?!?

yeah. Apparently that person must have been convinced somewhere that is was normal to have intake valve failures on the isx. Seems they are mis-informed over on those motohome forums or something.

- Some info on this type of intake valve failure was released in 2015 and followed up by a TSB in 2016: ( https://quickserve.cummins.com/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/tsb/2015/tsb150130.html?q=tsb150130 ). Even the TSB says it can be one of many reasons when the engine is operated outside of its normal expected ranges.

It basically says exactly what I said... Severe duty / (i.e. abuse of engine) leads to a premature failure of this type. - It had nothing to do with motorhomes, but severe duty and abuse. - I know I have seen this failure before and it has always been associated with accelerated valve seat wear or simply a lot of age and fatigue on an old engine. ref: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1632&pid=18718#pid18718

Or from a deleted/abused/cranked up HP engines if it occurred as early on (at only 48k miles) like that person earlier in the thread had described. so ... NO.. it is not a common thing at all to happen this early so this points directly towards abuse or neglect of some sort if it is happening regularly in a certain type of application.

Needless to say, in a confined space with inadequate cooling, etc... like in a motor-home, this type of failure would be seen more often but it is not the fault of the engine.... but rather its improper application or abuse due to modifications.

That is why I said in the earlier post, what I said... but the person asking the question wanted to be a teenage-burp-tard instead of having a reasonable conversation about it.

- I have been around this type of failure a few times... On a normally operated engine, it can be predicted before it happens by measuring valve sear wear and detent clearances to the jake-brake (mentioned in the bottom section of this old rant post: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1106&pid=9466#pid9466 )

- So... If that engine he mentioned only went 48k miles and the valve failed in the same way that TSB mentions .... something caused it ... and in that short of time /operating hours .. It is most likely abuse!.. and the most likely scenario is from a bad delete program due to the fact that just about every that I have person so far that I have met with an ISX motorhome, they want to delete their engine right away and then want to go about turning up the horsepower too. Trouble is that added horsepower in those things easily gets above what the cooling system can handle and the delete programming that most shops do in fact can easily cause engine failures of this type in such an application. That or some other thing someone did to abuse or neglect the engine that proper maintenance and care could have prevented. I suppose someone could blame the mortorhome company for inadequate cooling or CAC cooling, etc... but this is likely a stretch.

This is also why I mentioned aftermarket parts. Who knows how many pre-2016 updated heads, valves, injectors, etc. and knock-offs, usually from china are out there sold as so-called "quality parts". Even so and before that update to the valves, this type of failure was not a regular thing under any normal sort of application.

- Only other thing I can see is perhaps excessive idling at low rpm of the engine for several months at a time of for perhaps accumulated over quite a number of years, ,.. who knows ... causing enough valve seat wear to finally make one crack and let go. - Again... age, neglect, etc. and failure to adjust/check the overhead valves and clearances vs operating hours to catch this type of issue before failure happens.

Those are my thoughts on it any ways. Maybe my followup will help others out there who are trying to get more info on this.
