At very minimum next truck purchase will have the valve cover removed, and crankcase filter. Inspecting the cams and searching for coolant. Then on to the tube that come off the egr cooler looking for any signs of moisture. I would see which fuel pump is on the motor, a 3 cylinder pump is instant fail in my book. I would bring my laptop and run all insite test before the test drive. If the dealer wouldn't allow any of this, I would run away... why wouldn't you buy cm2250 RE: New owner of KW T660 ISX15 CM2250 - Squish099 - 09-11-2017 I will take camshaft problems over the ticking time bomb fuel pumps any day.. When the fuel pump explodes, unless you are very lucky, it's in frame time.. This truck after De-mandating it and a tune runs extremely well. Running almost 7mpg with idle time, fully expecting close to 8 as Temps drop. If I owned Anything newer, then I would be as paranoid as a pot-smoker about that sudden death syndrome too. (btw: I don't do drugs,... that is unless you consider beer while working on a truck, a drug lol). Also, I don't believe that the 2250 is capable of the fuel economy that the 871 is. Also, I don't believe that the 2250 is capable of the fuel economy that the 871 is. Comparing them against each other after proper de-mandates and good custom tuning - I have seen some CM2250's get really close to the same fuel mileage as the CM871 but not really beat it. The 2350 can be programmed to get really close to the CM871 in efficiency as well,.. but it becomes risky to do. When you get it there,... You are getting outside of its safe operating zones of that HCCI injection process. Not worth the risk to the engine/head gasket at higher power levels. Better to program it conservatively and more on the "protection" side of things on that one for sure. RE: New owner of KW T660 ISX15 CM2250 - Longshot - 09-14-2017 I wanted to thank everyone for the comments and I read the posts recommended by Rawse plus his book - a great learning experience and eye opener for sure. I got pretty paranoid about the fuel pump and I checked my engine number on Cummins and found I have a 2012 CM2250 and the new 2 cylinder pump, but expect it needs the updated plungers and whatnot. I figured I would have it done at Mr Haggs but now wonder if I shouldn't just buy the parts and get them put in myself before sending the truck out on the road again. Anyone know of any good videos on installing the updated parts? Or is that something I should wait and have Mr Haggs do? I'm pretty handy with engine work but mostly car stuff not heavy duty diesel. Any help appreciated! RE: New owner of KW T660 ISX15 CM2250 - Squish099 - 09-14-2017 The head gasket is only like $50. Pull the head off of fuel pump and check which plungers it has.. Pray for steel..... RE: New owner of KW T660 ISX15 CM2250 - Longshot - 09-14-2017 perfect! thanks Squish099 |
