A medium sized heavy haul company up here in the NE said to me a few years ago that the true big money in trucking is over height. The higher the better. Just the normal heavy, those 40,000 to 45,000 lb loads, is normally cheap. I'm looking at freight daily, from several carriers, 9 times out of 10 the heavier the load the cheaper the rate in the general freight commodity market. Me, I try to stay around 20,000 lbs, or under, and the rates are generally better than the same heavy freight from the same point A to point B locations. HazMat too, not enough price differential to even consider hauling it, not worth the hassle or insurance costs. I think it has quite a bit to do with the fact that the majority of folks in this business have no clue about the business. From the guys in sales to the dispatchers, and of course the drivers and owner operators. Not that I am the wizard of smarts, but I don't believe you need to be one to agree with my last statement. If I were "smart", I would go find something else to do. RE: Tuned cm870 egt's - Hambone - 09-17-2019 I haul in excess of 80k in the ozark mountains and have had my 870 tuned by gents here. For the most part i never see anything over 850 degrees but the boost will spike to 42 psi and level off around 39 to 40. I service my truck every 10k and burn no oil .450k on crate isx RE: Tuned cm870 egt's - tree98 - 09-17-2019 (09-17-2019 )Hambone Wrote: I haul in excess of 80k in the ozark mountains and have had my 870 tuned by gents here. I tell everyone that asks what the hardest places to drive are and the Ozark's are right up there in the top 4 or 5. I swear when they scouted the road route's out, they must have used a drunk mountain goat to lead the way.
