RE: EGTs and Gauge - Rawze - 10-28-2021 Assuming for a moment that a sensor mounted into the exhaust stream itself is accurate .. 100% throttle for extended period ... roughly 1150-F, post turbo is all the EGT should ever get up to on a properly de-mandate ISX. This means that if the sensor is mounted in the manifold itself, pre-turbo, then it would usually be around 1270-f or so.. maybe 1290-f ~ish or so. Depends on tier of engine, power being made, and other conditions that would effect heat restriction and absorption, etc. Some of the issue in measuring this accurately is that also the turbo absorbs and blocks heat.. and throws off the reading a bit. The probe also bleeds heat back and fourth as well into/out of the metal components and mount too. At best, you get a ball=-park figure within about 50-80 degrees or so variance depending on air flow around the engine. maybe this clears it up a bit... -=-= As far as driving it is concerned, if you had no pyro gauge at all, you would not even be thinking about how you drove it. Given that, there are plenty of people on this forum who have de-mandated trucks (that were done properly or got fixed after finding out their programming was horrible) .. who have never had a pyro gauge and their trucks, and they do just fine. RE: EGTs and Gauge - amermextrucker - 10-30-2021 Ive never been past 750 on egt , im usually at 570 cruising doing 60 -62 mph at 10 - 15 boost. Im not happy with MPG the best I get is 6 mpg , must be the work I do ( chgo ) coupled with my terrible rear ends 3.36 RE: EGTs and Gauge - GhostHauling - 10-30-2021 What kind of truck do you have and engine ? That seems low if it’s an aero dynamic truck, unless your doing local stop & start often RE: EGTs and Gauge - amermextrucker - 10-31-2021 (10-30-2021 )GhostHauling Wrote: What kind of truck do you have and engine ? I haul local in and out of Chicago. RE: EGTs and Gauge - NDISX15 - 10-31-2021 I'm in a 367 pete, which is about as aerodynamic as a toaster. Not a lot of stop and go, more sustained highway speeds but off highway kills my mileage with pto work and low speed on well roads. Coupled all with oversize/overweight loads. RE: EGTs and Gauge - GhostHauling - 10-31-2021 Well there’s definitely Room for improvement I’m in these Appalachian mountains and I averaged 7.6 on my 3rd quarter IFTA filing and before The mandate expired I was around 6 to 6.5 but usually on the lower side if I spent more time in the hills. |
