You're taking a much bigger gamble with a used motor or anything "cheaper". Could fail on you 2 miles after it's installed. Labor to swap out will still be the same. You need to go down to the dealer, get a full accounting of what they say is damaged and get pictures! Post them here and we can help give sound advise. Then at the very least call up Mr. Hagg's shop and consult them. The pictures might help them too. I'd guess a full inframe + new fuell pump and labor would run you somewhere around $28-30k, which is still cheaper then what the dealer wants to sell you ($36k for the engine plus $9k for labor!). I'm just ballparking based on my recent experience. There's also a good chance that the dealer is trying to screw you over. Best to get a second opinion. Finally, you might be able to sell the truck as-is for $10-15k and go buy another one, but that would depend on your situation and there's still no guarantee that the next truck would get down the road without it's own problems. I don't recommend this route for long term success, but it could be an option. RE: Fmi 157 spn 18 - Hallmanhauling - 08-19-2020 I have emailed Cummins and asked for photos or the stuff they say is wrong. And for a break down of what is all in that 36k pricetag for a new motor. And for a break down of what is all in that 36k pricetag for a new motor. Did you drive that truck in to the dealer or was it towed in with a seized up motor? If you drove it in, odds are the motor is salvageable. I would say the odds are incredibly good that it is. And I would go down there and inspect yourself, with your camera. For all you know they have not moved your truck from where it was parked when it first arrived. They sat in the lunchroom and said, "That Hallman truck, Fuel Pump?"... "Yep"... A few quick glances and a blank stare from Bob the new guy... "MOTOR SWAP!"... A few fist pumps of excitement... "Hey, we got that crate motor that has been here for months from the last sucker, think we can stick this guy with it, we sure could use the room, I know I'm tired of tripping on it". "I know bro, we can dump it on him and get it out of here"... More fist pumps... This is how it works... $58,000 + $9000 was the tip off on what I typed above. Even if you had to replace the crank in that block, it would still be cheaper than that line of BS they fed you. If you drove that truck into the dealer, get it to Mr Hagg for an honest second opinion. RE: Fmi 157 spn 18 - Mr Hagg - 08-19-2020 TBH I would be filing a warrenty claim with cummins if fuel pump failed that soon.. Also I have did many of these engines that all we had to do was install new rods and mains, oil pump , oil cooler and a good flush and back on the road.. If oil pressure was good going in... Not sure the cost to tow it but wow 36K plus 9K is a chunk... we charge 5k for engine swap. Includes swapping all needed parts oil, filters and coolant.... Can I file a warranty claim if I am the one who installed the high pressure fuel pump? I didn't do the whole pump 3 months ago jus the high pressure side. The oil pressure idles around 25 to 30 then goes up when I give it throttle. I've read that is about normal for the isx motors. yeah oil and everything was fine on the motor I drove it into cummins. the only time I could notice any actual problem was pulling the hills near ashville, n.c. other than that the truck ran fine. even driving it to cummins bobtail I couldn't tell anything was wrong with it. I'm going to stop by there tomorrow after I do my run and see if I can actually look at the damage and get pictures. How long is the wait time to get it into your shop Mr. Hagg? I'm gonna send you a pm with my phone number if you could give me a call tomorrow sometime I would appreciate it.
