Cummins ECM questions - Off-Highway Application - gth1985 - 07-01-2026

Hey All,

Thanks in advance for reading and sharing your knowledge if so chosen.

I have a unique situation with a Komatsu "Excavator" - I believe I am on the correct track here for a diagnosis but there has been several hands on the unit making the issue more complex.

I am curious if anyone can clarify the Cummins Insite ECM image Analyzer - Audit Trail entries. Specifically I am curious what prompts the "Tool Name" versus what PC application has been making these changes.

I'll start with my initial assumptions:

Manta - No Clue with "Manta" may stand for but it has been on every single ECM audit Trail I have witnessed as the oldest entry recorded. I believe this to be the factory writing the calibration to the tool. The ECM online is very low and this has a Tool ID and User ID that looks unique.

CALTERM - I know this is a factory engineering program. Considering this audit trail entry occured at 51 hours ECM Time, I expect this clear evidence that there has been funckery with the calibration. The Tool ID looks unique and the User ID is "000012345678" further suggesting aforementioned funckery. Would there be any reason this entry should exist on an untouched machine?

INSITE - Normal technician connections - Tool ID and User ID look unique.


Some background to this machine - it may not make a difference, it does interest me though, so I'll add some context.

This machine was an excavator mistakenly turned log loader. Log Loader / forestry machines in general have a different regeneration logic considering their operating environment. They do not perform time based regenerations like most other off-road machines do and requires operator input to perform any sort of active regeneration. HEST is a considerable concern with forestry machines, for good reason. This machine had incorrect components installed on the machine making the machine monitor controller believe it was a log loader, the ECM from a log loader was also mistakenly installed. Due to the incorrect parts being installed the operator's option to perform an active stationary regeneration was consistently un-selectable or "greyed out".

As of today - I understand the controller was re-written with what ECM software that was originally installed, obtained directly from the Cummins calibration server. How much could this affect any changes to aftertreatment logic that were performed outside normal circumstances? Could this put the controller back to 100% factory calibration? Would the controller need to be rombooted? Also if someone could explain what is actually happening with a romboot 5080 coded ECM I'd be interested to learn.

Your questions/statement are confusing, pointing towards not understand what you are asking or trying to discuss.

Also, those type of discussions/questions are better done on the mumble server, and not the forum here so much.
