Ravenwood update - RavenwoodII - 09-05-2026
So I’m now at a loss.
If anyone remembers my old profile Ravenwood knows that I had many issues with my 600 CM2350.
1st a horrible demandate tune, then a fuel pump failure that was nearly catastrophic, leaking injectors, a cracked head and multiple cracked injector cups, then a clean tune from Rawze that I just couldn’t get this engine to run properly with. I finally found multiple fuel injector lines letting air in at peak power levels.
It’s been an absolute fuel sipping beast of an engine for the last year but it has all come to an end on August 26th.
So now I have questions
What CM version and CPL would be the toughest and best performing out there. I really liked the way this engine performed after being correctly demandated.

Get one of the bigger hp cpl X15's because they have the dual line fuel pump head. Those pumps aren't known for destroying engines. Personally I wouldn't go all the way back to an 870 or 871, im sure others will disagree.

Agree with tree, get an older x15 performance 4343 cpl or pre-2024 that the horsepower rating ends in 5, rebuild it and you'll have a fun and practical truck. Still gotta watch the fuel pumps on them but not as closely as the old stuff..

Personally, I still think the CM871 was the best version of the ISX that was ever built (once the soot-monster was dealt with properly) . - Maybe its just me though.,..lol

Ok thanks, I have a a 2012 565 that I’m looking at. I know the truck, the history and the owner.
It’s had a lot of recent work done to the engine and to the entire truck. I don’t know any specifics about the data plate as he’s out on holidays for a couple weeks.
I’ve also seen a few older prospects that might fit the bill. When did the 871 end?

A 2012 truck will not have a CM871 engine in it from factory.
truck ranges were from 2007 - 2011.
Last year that your could get a truck with a CM871 was 2011, and not all 2011's had them. Some has ISX CM2250's which is a very different engine entirely.

If I HAD to replace my dual cam with a single, it'd be a x15 4343 cpl. Did an overhaul on my friend's engine, and with Rawze's magic in it, it's a seriously impressive engine. He inches out a win in both power and fuel economy over my 871.
I still prefer the 871 - cheaper overall ownership.

Are the 2250’s still comparable to a 2350. I know it has different harnesses, ECM and internals or should I stay away

Just older. The older an engine is the less parts support there is for it. Cummins parts are still available for 2250's don't misunderstand, im just saying as those engines get older and older the dealers don't have as much in stock as they do for the newer ones. I guess it really just depends on what your goals are? If you can tolerate down time and its not really a problem to wait to get a part sometimes, maybe you don't really use the truck every day anyway?? If that's the case then get anything 871 or newer.
Your truck melted into the ground so obviously your looking to replace the whole rig not just an engine. Don't forget...... there's a lot more to a truck than just the engine. If your buying a 20+ year old truck, I don't care if it's got a cummins in it that was built by Jesus Christ himself, your still gonna have problems with that truck. Again it comes down to what you need to do with this truck. If it works every day and makes your living for you, then you need to get on the phone with peterbilt sales and see what they got available on the shiney new lot.
You guys all know, I'll argue with anyone that buying new is better, cheaper (long run), easier, sometimes faster depending on what you need than messing around with old junk. Unless of course your just hauling soybeans with it 4 weeks a year.
