2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - cesar034 - 10-03-2026 Good evening y'all, I wanted to post to see if anyone has any guidance for me on this truck. It is intermittently throwing the low coolant warning and on insight it shows the codes for coolant data valid but below normal. Two new tanks have been installed, two new sensors, new pigtail, overlayed wires along with new pin in the ecm connector. I'm not sure what else to do and it's driving me crazy! Any advice would be appreciated. Yes the tanks that were installed were paccar tanks from my local Kenworth. RE: 2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - marek4792 - 10-03-2026 OEM or aftermarket tank? Although some aftermarket tanks can work well, the sensors can be flaky and swapping with an OEM sensor would fix it. Just had an experience where I've installed 2 oem tanks just to have them leak and was forced to use an aftermarket that didn't leak... that's what I've ran into.. RE: 2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - cesar034 - 10-03-2026 Yeah the tanks have been OEM. Same with the level sensors they have been OEM as well. RE: 2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - tree98 - 10-03-2026 Is it demandated? Some idiot could have changed something in there that shouldn't have been changed. Are you having to add coolant? RE: 2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - cesar034 - 10-03-2026 The truck still has the factory software. No the truck has not lost any coolant, pressurized the truck today and found not a drop of coolant. RE: 2018 Kenworth t880 intermittent low coolant light comes on - Rawze - 10-04-2026 (just some random thoughts)... == it could be electrical noise issue with the alternator. == it could be tarnished (discolored) fuses in the fuse panel. == It could be another sensor tied to the same +5 volts line (like the tranny sensor, etc.) that is dragging down the voltage just enough for ghost alarms in other places. Check ECM wiring diagram for other sensors on the same +5volts supply. == it could be a bent of pushed-back pin at one of the connectors as well. == it could be older software in ECM and a newer tank with a slightly different detection range .. creating a mis-match in how the error is detected. == It could be bubbles getting around the sensor on occasion from combustion gas seepage, etc. into the coolant system. |
