Low oil pressure stop engine with 30lbs of pressure - DrPhixschitt - 11-01-2026 2016 Pete 348 with a Paccar PX-9/Cummins 8.9 ISL. Newly rebuilt engine, new sensor. At start, oil pressure reads 60-70. After reaching 180 degrees, pressure drops to 10-15 at idle, the light starts blinking on the gauge, stop engine on dash, and alarm goes off. Touch the throttle and it stops until about 30 lbs, then it comes back on. I’ve ran all the wires, took the pan off, all was good. So now I’m thinking wrong oil, or the pump behind the front cover wasn’t shimmed and leaking. Getting good oil to the valve cover. If anyone has an idea it would be greatly appreciated. RE: Low oil pressure stop engine with 30lbs of pressure - mikkhh - 11-01-2026 All genuine parts? Bearings plastigauged? Did you check for undersize journals? Checked part codes on old bearings so they all are the same? Programming wise is the engine stock? Programming has been looked over? RE: Low oil pressure stop engine with 30lbs of pressure - DrPhixschitt - 11-01-2026 Thank you for your reply. The customer had the engine built at one shop. 3 year, 300,000 mile warranty. The injectors were remans from another shop. One of which was defective. I replaced that one. Once running, found out that the shop that installed the NEW motor, used the old, non working thermostat. According to the driver it got to 230. Not sure about the parts and processes on the build. The guage problem was also before the swap. So old motor to new, same problem. I tried using ESA but is requiring an update. The truck has been modified. I didn’t want to mess up the mod, but thought about copying what’s there, do the update, and restore. Only thing is, I’m just learning that part and don’t have confidence to try it. It sounds like the typical S#hit-show of a half-arssed delete combined with half-arsses rebuild.. it could be anything. (on the programming side of it)... Copy program from ecu and e-mail it to me for a proper review of what someone did in there. (on the low oil pressure issue)... As far as the low oil pressure .. you were not so clear on that one... replacement engine has same identical issues?... not sure what your saying. As well... if 2 different complete engines have same low-oil pressure issues... if it is a non OEM turbo ,.. that could be the source of the low oil problem? .. one never knows though. - There is never a need to replace the turbo with a non OEM.. even after a de-mandate.. so again.. sounds like a s$it show to me. where are all these engines coming from these days that are butchered so badly?... bust-a-red-block.scam.com? RE: Low oil pressure stop engine with 30lbs of pressure - DrPhixschitt - 11-01-2026 So on the oil pressure issue, the light and alarm were coming on with the guage showing decent pressure before the rebuild according to the customer. It still has the original VGT turbo with 600k on it as far as I know, the original . I’ll have to check back with them. As far as being a s$it show, you nailed that. It wasn’t starting without ether, because of fuel leaks on the return line and bad connections at the battery cut-off switch. The installer was basically a chop shop. I’ve been able to correct all but the gauge issue an intermittent rough idling. On J-pro, the fault is 415 & 143, Engine oil rifle pressure either above or below normal. Continuity, voltage, resistance all checks out. According to the wiring diagram, four other sensors are on the same circuit as the oil pressure sensor as in they share the same + and -. Pin 54 for ground/return, pin 78 for 5v. I will get the file tomorrow. PM here or where do I find your email? Thank you again. |
