Trying to identify and learn about each part.
What is this called? And is it supposed to click after turning ignition to on?

That is the EGR valve controller. It is mounted on the top of the egr valve itself.
If you go to quickserv.com, you can register your engine for free and get a complete breakdown of the entire engine, part numbers and all.

it does a cleaning stroke on key on and off and makes a faint whine all the time while the key is on. that is normal.

Mine is clicking then stops. Thanks Rawze. I just got registered a few ago. Maybe I didn't use it right. I'll try again and see if it will give me the description.
