570 vs 871 in glider - Brock - 08-01-2017 Here is the situation. Looking at a western star glider tri drive truck (bush truck). The sales guy says they can do a 871 in it but they have to add all the emissions stuff which makes it alot more expensive.... but seeing his build program and options, I think he's full of it and can't do it. I see there is a option for a factory installed signature series Cummins or prep kit for one so here is where my question comes in..... Any way to disguise a 871 as a Sig series with a upgraded turbo? I don't know if hard parts are different or similar, if ecm are similar or not? Etc etc. It would be nice to have all the benefits of the engine I've come to love without all the extra useless crap on there, after all...... it is a glider. RE: 570 vs 871 in glider - AussieISX - 08-01-2017 Internally they're very similar, but pistons , injector cam , injectors and ECM are different. Either can be converted into the other . RE: 570 vs 871 in glider - Signature620 - 08-01-2017 Why not just get it with the sig? Probably slightly less fuel efficient but no less reliable than an @m*m^2 871 and simpler to repair. Would absolutely be my choice RE: 570 vs 871 in glider - Brock - 08-01-2017 I really like the extra jake brake power going through the mountains. I do alot of off-road work and going down a 10% grade for 15 minutes straight with 120000lbs has me really loving that 3rd stage. RE: 570 vs 871 in glider - Signature620 - 08-02-2017 See if you can find out which valve cam is in the cm570 they offer. The Aussie spec CPL8246 ones were known for their outstanding jakes before the 871 came along. I made a run up to Portland this week, and only had to tap on brakes just a few times very lightly, coming down cabbage, with a cm570. No kidding |
