2008 isx 450 mayday got hot - tommielee - 04-08-2016

recently got my 2008 780 Volvo isx 450 warm enough to shut down. It says coolant low, it started up I drove to truck stop backed in shut down it read 180 water temp. I filled coolant and tried to start engine turned over slow didn't start. I checked fault codes mid 128 Sid 27 fmi 9, mid 128 Sid 146 fmi9 pid 111 fmi1. Replaced batteries and starter yesterday, still turns over slow and still won't start. Wtf do I do

(just guessing here, no one is likely to be able to answer that definitively unless they were looking at it) -- Sound like it may have spun a crank bearing if it is not hydra-locking.

Also, if it is old,... you can almost count on the fact that the head gasket will fail in a month or 2 (perhaps less) after it overheats like that. Very common problem if you do overheat one.

I would not drive it at all until you find out what is creating the excess internal friction. You could be destroying the crank or something else very expensive.

Where did your coolant go? How much coolant did you put in? What is your oil level? And I would not drive it either, something sounds seriously wrong like Rawze says... In fact, I would not even start it.

Sounds like a piston swelled up and now has created a problem. Or you coked up the bearings.

Almost sounds hydrolocked...

im with gearhead - piston swelled and scored a liner or you spun a bearing and its binding up.

When I spun a rod bearing in my N14 it turned over slow after I shut it down. I lost oil pressure and had a fault code for high oil temperature before the red light came on and I knocked it into neutral and shut it down. After it cooled off we started it and it had a nasty knock.

Well what happened to the coolant is I got fuel checked my oil coolant and forgot to put cap back on resivor tank. F*"* by the time I got to the top of Donner pass, I was red lighting. It shut down. I've been a driver 27 years owner OPERATOR for five. First truck I blew just goes to show I ain't perfect with that rookie move. Thsnk everyone looks to me shop time. Hell 998567 miles it didn't leak or burn a drop of oil. No water in oil that I can tell. But still time to rebuild..... Thanx for the input.

Anyone can make a mistake...

It is what you do AFTER your mistake to correct it .. and what you do in the future to prevent it from happening again that counts the most.
