Grab your laptop and take with ya. Check out the aftertreatment history and make sure it's only regenning about every 100 engine hours and the dpf diff. pressure isn't much more than 3.0 and temps. in the 1000-1100 range. Check any stored codes and engine abuse history.
Look on the oil filter housing for a white paint mark(means its been updated with new orings).
Now you can grab the creeper and coveralls and check out the rest. You're in the dark about the fuel pump being updated unless the owner has documentation to prove it.
I've had 2 cm2350's and both were/are problem free and in my opinion a pretty darn good engine. Good luck and let us know how it goes ;-).

Check the overhead cam to see if it is chewed up first and foremost, adjust all the valves, do an EGr tune-up on it replacing all old sensors, cleaning out all the pipes, bake the DPF and DOC, etc. Go over tyhe rest of the truck and make sure it is in good shape too. -- Get to know your equipment well, or go out of business taking it to the stealershits non-stop.

Are you buying from an individual or dealer?

RE: buying a 2014 pete 386 - putt putt - 05-06-2018

He is a dealer, but does more trailer sales than truck. Very familiar with my 04 isx, just got no clue on this new one. I know what to look for as far the the truck and what to expect. The motor is what's got me nervous.

I am flying out to look at it. What can be done on the lot? Gonna grab a oil sample and run it for sure. Is there a way to grab codes? I have no idea how these Def motors work. My tax situation is forcing this. I know what I am looking for as far as as brakes tires and all that. I know that it needs a overhead done because of the mileage and a egr tune up. My look on the guys lot is my biggest concern. It comes with the 2 yr encore warranty.

I'll will have to see if his mechanics can plug in. I am unfortunately not very tech savvy. Your using in site from cummins?

RE: buying a 2014 pete 386 - tree98 - 05-06-2018

Yeah cummins insite. Your gonna HAVE to get familiar with it if you don't want to be at the mercy of dealers and shops, It's not hard to use.How soon are you leaving to look at it? If you have time to get insite from ebay and learn the basics before you head out there, you'll be ahead of the game.

Waiting on bank for loan approval. Heading out in a week or so. I'll look at ebay. Particular program or version I am looking for? Are there any videos on how to use the software or is there a tutorial with the program?
