Massive oil leak... - Pete1990 - 07-21-2018

So i have a 07 9400i with a ISX(CM870)
I Had the truck and engine washed today before then i had no issues. I've always had a small front cover leak it wasn't too bad was just cleaning it up as needed. After about 100 miles from getting truck washed i looked behind me and see a shi#t ton of smoke. Pulled over and it was from under the hood i thought i had a fire. The engine is covered in Oil i mean covered the rear is the worse of it. So past the oil cooler there is little to no oil till u get to the back. I Had the truck towed off the interstate as i didnt wanna chance driving it and causing a issue or getting a ticket for the smoke(Not coming out of exhaust). My Question is where is this oil coming from has anyone ever had this happen?[attachment=4055][attachment=4056][attachment=4057][attachment=4058][attachment=4059]

It looks like it's coming out under pressure. Oil PSI sensor? Breather blocked? Did they stand on the valve cover while cleaning it?

There's too much oil on it to make a judgement. Needs to be washed and left running or driven a short distance to locate the source.

Be honest im not sure i will have to pull the dash cam and see. If they did im not gonna be happy if they cracked it..

Is it just me or does he also have a wiring harness problem? -- Looks like the wires are getting cooked by the exhaust manifold here...

Oil leak almost looks like the rear cover for one of the overhead cams could be leaking.

Yeah thats my next project i gotta unhook the whole harness to fix that part...

If the rear cover is leaking what would be involved in fixing that? Do they gotta pull the bull gear and all that apart to fix it? Could that be damage from having the engine power washed?

Do you happen to have a misfire? Reason i ask i just rebuilt a 2350 couple weeks ago and it did exactly the same thing. Oil was heavily blowing out the breather pipe and the valve cover gasket and made a huge mess. Ran perfect before it blew. Ended up being a hole in the piston. [attachment=4062]

Sorry, no intention to freak you out, its just eerily similar to what i recently saw.

i was referring to one of the camshaft covers on the back of the head. it may not be your leak,.. but it would certainly cause the same kind of mess.

Here is a pic of them looking from the back side of the engine ...

-- if there is damage to one of these covers, then it could be a sign of more serious issues.
