Rawze's Daily blog... - Rawze - 04-17-2016 Ok, so i have taken the weekend off while waiting for counterbore shims. I am counter-boring my block myself because I found the exhaust side of cylinder number 6 to be 0.002" low. It is no big deal,.. but it is just enough that I do not think it will last another million without some help. I will also be raising the height of all the liners to 0.014" from the factory 0.010" that it was. This should make it stout, and/or allow me to put some serious horsepower in it if I choose in the future if I ever want to. Who said a gallon of gear lube in your engine is bad?-.. I think this is clear proof! --- all these parts still look new!. I have always used regular Rotella-T oil with one gallon of Sta-lube 80/90 gear at every oil change. Here are my rod bearings after 955,000 miles... [attachment=1382] And the cams after 955,000 miles... Hard to see in picture, but there is actually ZERO WEAR THAT CAN BE MEASURED with a set of calipers. Only just beginning to polish on some lobe surfaces. [attachment=1383] Rollers and some crossheads... [attachment=1384] Here is the worst of all the wear I could find... If someone asked me to look at this,.. I would swear it was only about 400k miles on that bearing. [attachment=1385] -- the IRONY in all this,..--- Is that These parts HAVE NOT BEEN CLEANED YET! -- AT ALL!... But simply removed form the engine and placed onto the table. there are no deposits anywhere,.. and there was only a tiny piece of dried loc-tite in the bottom of the oil pan. There was not even any glitter in it. It was absolutely clean. -- Even the magnets are clean!. Here is the injector spray pattern shadowed into the top of the piston ... It is very clear that it is hitting the piston perfectly!. It is not too high or low in position!. ALL these components are straight out of the engine,.. they have NOT been cleaned yet --- You have to really look to see the actual wear in the rings,.. it is difficult to believe this engine has never been disassembled, and it has 955,000 miles on it. -- [attachment=1387] and... You can see from the edge of the ring,.. there is no real wear in it yet!. it is still its original shape from new. [attachment=1388] Here is another one... [attachment=1389] Again ... Our company Petes, the owner wants oil changes done around 27,000 miles pulling 140,000 lbs super b-trains. But most of the engines have needed a rebuild by 250,000 miles. One of the guys did oil changes himself at about 17,000 miles or less and his truck went 450,000 lbs without being touched before getting traded off. Coincidence, I think not. It is origionally a 435ST motor that has been set to 575 HP most of its life. Really bad, every 10,000... The soot these things make is beyond belief. I honestly do not know how these things make it down the road bobtailing it, much less pulling 43,000+ in a van or on a flat bed. The inside of Rawze's head looks allot better than mine, black as the ace of spades in mine. The rest looks pretty much the same as far as wear goes. The guys in the shop were surprised at how good everything looked, it if was not for the head gasket, i probably had another 200,000 miles on her. But I did need an injector or two... I've rebuilt these at 300,000km/185,000mi (in factory/stock form) with more wear than that.
