3.90 no doubt. Mack MP8 is just a Volvo D13 engine rebadged.

Yup same problems as a D13. Know that the injector cups are sensitive to anything on those engines but when it does happen I can almost guarantee that 9/10 mechanics slap those cups in the motor and sing koombya, eat cheese, or whatever. I have done 5 sets now in the d12 engines which are simlar and is a VERY critical task. I don’t know of anyone that can decently tune them though and if you do let us know.

Run away fast. I hate those things. Especially with a maxitorque trans. Constant wire harness issues, injector cup issues, injector issues, water pump problems, ect ect.
This gem of a d13 had a air compressor go bad with a load of black top on. A cummins or cat could be chan changed out before the load set up. Not on this chitball. Its a 6-10 hour job to do that. No thanks
That being said, id go 370 with short rubber and 390 if your runnin tall

I'm running a 2011 D13 and have 1,127,000 km on it. I consider mine to actually be not too bad. I've replaced injectors twice (once on warranty), engine harness once, DEF pump twice (second time it took out the chassis harness by leaking all over it), the odd sensor here and there.

A friend has a 2014 D13 with 875,000 km and since it went off warranty at 805,000 km he has spent between $30,000 and $40,000 trying to keep it on the road. He has replace the injectors 4 maybe 5 times, much of the aftertreatment, and has had many "software glitches". He will be in the market for a new truck at the end of the year and unless this truck settles down he will be looking at anything but Volvo.

The biggest problem with Volvo is they treat their VCAD software like it's national defense secrets, very expensive for a private shop to get even a copy that will only read codes and do the most basic of maintenance that requires a computer. That and the tens of thousands of dollars of tools that are required to work on the Swedish nightmare, the dealers have things pretty much wrapped up.

I'm not sure about MP8's but i do know volvo's from experience.

If the MP8 is a D13 then you are forced to go to a dealer for major repairs, the shops in my city hate Volvo engines because like the other guy that has mentioned that they keep their software systems as secret as the nuke codes " its expensive as all hell ".

I've asked multiple times for the procedure for changing injectors and was told that they dont give those out to " customers " and shops i think pay for it.... I think?

Tho the good news, its a hit or miss kind of thing. My old mans D12 has had far less issues then those D13 but again i feel like thats for every truck manufacture. Some of his coworkers have had nothing but volvo's for the good n bad, some guys had one bad experience and write it off as if every volvo is shitty.

Only thing i think cummins has over volvo is they give information to everything and for free or find it else where.

I'm looking also to add another truck, looked at mack with the mp8 and they are cheaper then most in miles n in years. Would like to know if Mack is anything like volvo, suppressing information? are they easy to work on? what are the general costs of operating one?
