Making Lithium Ion battery packs.... - preacherboy24 - 05-07-2016 I am making battery packs out of Lithium Ion batteries. They are 18650 cells...the same in most cordless power tools. When a battery pack goes bad its because one or two cells went bad. You can harvest them or get them on ebay cheap enough. In the picture I am making 4v packs and will wire them in series to make a 48v pack for my wife's electric trike. After I am done according to the math it should take the trike 100 miles on one charge. The electric bike kit is on ebay for about $250 for everything you need to convert a regular 10 speed bike to electric. Its as easy as changing the front wheel. If you get the kit you can make your own battery buy getting some simple tools. Lookup home made ebike battery on youtube and you will see. This is important because I believe most wont take a bike on their truck because they are afraid they will go too far away and have trouble getting back. If you have an ebike with a battery like the one I am making you pretty much have an electric motorcycle since you can cruse at around 25mph. There is a special way you charge them so dont think you can wire these in series and just put a 48v charger to it.....unless its the 4th of July and fireworks are illegal in your state.....because it can put on a show if you over charge these things....which is why I am making 4v packs and charging them independently. I can balance charge them (if you look at the wires coming from the chargers you will see) and save time....its not hard to do. I will keep an eye on this post so if anyone would rather I make you a battery you can PM me and I can make one for you....since I have invested in the equipment to do so. RE: Making Lithium Ion battery packs.... - 1096 - 05-19-2016 Your over thinking this (I know this from experiance). When you get caught loading your Wife's Bike on your truck, It's GAME OVER! If you do get away with it, repeatedly, and those batteries come to the end of their service life. You will have created more toxic waste than your "Slain Soot Monster" does in it's lifetime! OR If your trying to send your Wife on a 100 mile one way trip, then this makes more sense. Toxic waste.....good....I have to make up for how efficent my truck is now so my carbon footprint is normal... The bike wont fit on my truck....but if it did I doubt I would ride it in a truckstop parking lot after the things Ive seen these wanna be steering wheel holders do. My wifes trike will go 25mph.....about 20mph faster than it should. 55 on a standard bike is insane. My buddy tried out my wifes trike and ended up in the tree line when it was time to stop.
