Do you have to do anything special with a new ECM or do you just hook it into truck hook up your inline and program?

RE: New ecm - Rawze - 06-27-2019

make sure you make a template (ecm back-up) with Insite (and with CT of you have it) of the old ecm so you don't loose all the addresses for the truck itself, like cruise control and engine brake switches, etc.

if you have custom programming, you will also want to make an actual ecm program backup using CT.

put the new ecm on and flash it with Insite, using factory program that is listed in quickserv for it.

After, restore ecm image (truck settings). Insite will try to do this automatically during flash, but does not always succeed. Auto back-up restore during flash cannot be relied on.

if you have custom programming, you need to let the truck run for 10 minutes on factory program before attempt of putting back any custom program.

having it pre-flashed is best thing you can do if you don't have the means to do it yourself or are not experienced.

$2000 is typical price of ecm.

$300-$400 is typical for pre-flashing it.

Having it pre-flashed is cheap insurance against getting a dead ecu or flashing it yourself and truck won't run, wasting hours and days fighting unknowns.

For those with custom programming, run the truck for a good 10 minutes before re-flashing it with any custom programming. Very important.

Could be a number of things. could be any module, -- I think Waterloo's truck, it was the stupid compass module, everyone thought it was the ECM too. - What is the resistance of the J1939 can+ and can- pins?

RE: New ecm - Lonestar10 - 07-12-2019

Doing new ECM today the template you talked about is that similar to the document I made when demandating that I used pdfprinter or whatever it was to make a several page copy of all insite settings?

I have insite and ct and copies of my stock and current tunes.

Could I just hookup new ECM download the stock tune then after 10 min download my current tune with CT?

New ECM installed now new problem ran for a while then shutdown will start sometimes and if it doesn't immediately die if you push throttle it will die. Any ideas?
