Turbo question - Lonestar10 - 07-23-2019

Was doing my weekly boost leak check commanded turbo to 90 did the check at 1100rpm all's good. For shots an giggles I went 95 and turbo whine disappeared and exhaust turned into a droneing sound. Turbo RPM went from 45k to 20-22k and grey nasty smelling smoke started coming out the exhaust exhaust backpressure was 200ish kpa I see 300+ on a good pull. Any thing wrong or I just pushed it to far?

Sounds like too much exhaust restriction from the turbo was causing the engine to stall?

RE: Turbo question - Lonestar10 - 07-23-2019

Kept chugging at 1100 just almost sounded like turbo went full open except back pressure was still at 200 kpa and the smoke. Almost thinking that the vg ring hit the impeller or hit some carbon that slowed impeller

your actually closing so much your starting to choke it completely off. It happens when you get em too far closed.

honestly it shows your turbo it good. Ive seen a few that at 95 % it didnt make a diffrence... and turbo was just really weak...

RE: Turbo question - Lonestar10 - 07-24-2019

thats great to know so far the rust burn its only 1/4 way between exhaust and intake sides. only runs about 600 to 725 degrees on pyro after turbo can do a 2 mile long full chooch pull just sits at 725
