2003 Kenworth, w/cm570, crate engine in 2016 - Irishflyer97 - 12-08-2019 I am looking at a 03' Kenworth with a 400ST crate engine, about 250k on that. I'm assuming any updates where done by then? I'm new to the ISX, and getting hopeful reading this forum that the problems they did have can be managed. I am curious about what areas to inspect. I will insist on a valve cover removal, but after that kinda in the dark. Another question, rather subjective, but what sort of fuel mileage pulling a grain hopper could one hope for with a pre-egr ISX, with an APU? Thanks! RE: 2003 Kenworth, w/cm570, crate engine in 2016 - Chamberpains - 12-08-2019 The cm570 doesn't have a VG turbo. Fuel efficiency and the enormous high profits will not be high on that thing. Especially if it's one of those refrigerator on wheels w900's. You'll probably be looking in the 5 mpg range maybe if you're really gentle with it, it may allow to to see a low 6 mpg every now and again. Completely crap. We can guide you a ton if you already owned this thing. But if you don't, maybe we can guide you in to looking at other more profitable setups. The VG turbo makes that much of a difference? Rears were 3.55, RTLO1813A. RE: 2003 Kenworth, w/cm570, crate engine in 2016 - Rawze - 12-08-2019 (12-08-2019 )Irishflyer97 Wrote: .. If I removed the Vg turbo off my truck, I would drop from 9 mpg down to high 6's. All my low-rent profits would be gone, might as well go work at a fast food restaurant, i'd make more money.lol The engine goes form being able to control the fuel AND air AND A/R ratio.. to just the fuel, and not the air or A/R ratio any more. -- There are some exceptions, but for anyone driving down the highways for hours on end, ... it can cost you $8,000 a year or more in lost revenue real fast. So now the question, can one be added to a cm570 without an egr? Or maybe more precisely, is there an ECM profile to take advantage of the non egr VG for efficiency? It is the most fuel efficient + lowest long term operating cost version of the ISX that the red engine maker has made to date. There is no other 15-litre brand/make/model engine that can touch it in long term profits if someone just cares for it properly and does not abuse it. The flip side though... ignore it, waiting for something to break,.. and/or add a bunch of life-sucking power to it, and/or gear the truck badly (tall rears) and lug the crap out of it a lot much below 1500 rpm's .. OR -- let a mechanic anywhere near it that absolutely does not know every single one of its quirks, or does not use a damn torque wrench on every single screw and bolt .. and your doomed to fail and hate it just like the rest of the people who have had bad experiences with them. RE: 2003 Kenworth, w/cm570, crate engine in 2016 - Irishflyer97 - 12-08-2019 EGR and DPF delete, or just the DPF? LOL. I learned something today...lol. RE: 2003 Kenworth, w/cm570, crate engine in 2016 - Pd6cas2 - 12-08-2019 I run a 2002 CM570 , I believe that if You run this engine wisely , The Rawze way Gear Oil, proper Overhead Adjustment, Clean inspect or Replace Injector, metering actuators , It’s a bulletproof engine. I run a Reefer from Mn to Tx every week gross out every way , I just ran 1008 miles put on 150 gallons 6.72 driving 62 mph or slower. My average mpg is 7.87 , but new XDN2 super singles kill about half a mile mpg ,I run this for Winter and run Bridgestone Singles In summer for MPG ! I bought this truck because I drove Cm2250 and CM871 and had many Emissions problems, but know If I had to upgrade I wouldn’t hesitate buying a Cm871 because I learned a lot thanks to Rawze. My best advice on this truck : Replace main Engine Harness, replace Cam& Crank sensors , Replace all Fuel lines , Replace all Injectors if over 500k , Replace Actuators Fuel, Meter if over 500k , rebuild IFSM and replace fuel pressure valves . Replace Harmonic Balancer and use nothing but Cummins genuine parts! Install a Turbo boost & Pyro Gauges. I’ve done all this and I have successfully got over a Million miles , Thanks Rawze! The 570 is a very reliable and powerful engine. |
