Here's what soot will do to your motor 760000 miles 4 broken rings 4 scored liners nearly every valve cratered 4 chipped valves not a good day in the neighborhood however the old girl still was running well but had excess blowby she was burning a little oil and coolant which in turn was plugging the good old dpf making the egr system stay in a near constant state of regeneration so in frame it is[attachment=1709][attachment=1712][attachment=1710][attachment=1711]

That thing looked soot packed for sure. I would almost bet that some of the oil rings will be broken when you get the pistons out too.

Oh yah he said I had at least 4 pistons with broken rings! Not to mention a chip or 2 of valve that went thru my turbo!

It's amazing how God awful those things look on the inside.

You are shedding the government mandate in that thing after all of this.....right? Be a shame to revisit this issue in another 750k

I've seen em go both ways, both cat and cummins go a million plus, others go just a fraction of that. Pulled apart a 3406E not long ago with 6 broken rings, poor bearings ect ect. Most cats I deal with come apart sooner due to blowby and head gasket issues. The best engine I personally deal with are cummins 870's. I see them go more miles than any other not needing to be opened up. Yes they tend to go through turbos and egr parts, but seldom do I need to get into the bottom end of one.
Simply put, there's good and bad in any mass produced engine

Oh yah you bet your ass I'm going too!
Already talked to Mr. Jedi ecm master about some "tuning" can't wait I've even tossed around the idea of not even driving it from Kansas down south and just haul it but she'll be fine going that far but I do hate that soot so much I would haul it if I had too
