Cm2250 oil pressure numbers??? - jimeneztrans84 - 07-16-2016

My truck idles at 15 psi when at opp temp and 35-40 psi when going down the road at 60mph. Does this sound ok? I believe a couple months back before summer it was idling at 20 psi @ idle. Is there something that might be going bad? I change oil every 12-13k

Sounds like Atypical Cummins oil pressure. If you don't like it that low, I have a thread running where I just shimmed my pump to increase pressure some. I used to dream of 40, now I run 41 at 220* operating/cruising temps...

My mechanic recommended oil pump and bearings to be swapped out... what do you guys think? He said it should be idling at 20-25 psi.

A little more info please...
Engine model?
How many miles/hours on the bearings? How many miles/hours on the engine?
What brand, type, & grade of oil? (ie: Rotella, synthetic, 10W30)
At what mileage is the current oil at?
What rpm idle/oil pressure?
What rpm cruise/oil pressure?

I would probably try shimming the oil pump first as it is by far the least expensive route. Are you going to roll the bearings in yourself, or hire it out?

2011 cm2250 450 with 501,000 miles. I bought it at 455,000. I always been using rotella 15w40. The hours I don't recall off the top of my head I think around 17,000 hours. @600 rpm idle it's at 15-16 psi and 1400 rpm it's at 35-40 psi. Current oil is at 6,000 miles. You think maybe clogged oil filter? Or just go ahead with pump and bearings?

THAT'S what my cm2250 runs at. with outside temps hitting 100+ that's about normal. i am going to shim my pump to get the pressure. also, my engine has about the same my miles as yours. but, i have a lot less hrs.
i think, SHIM THE PUMP 1S[/size]T.

Yeah that's the outside temp where I'm at in california and Las Vegas 100+. You think it's the outside temp causing this? Not too long ago it was at 20 psi @ 600 rpm in March. Should I be worried?

yes the outside temp effects it. especially between LA and Vegas. i would be and i am concerned with mine.
thats why i am going to shim my oil pump, just to make sure cam and rockers are getting oil.

How long have you been with current psi?
