Cut an access panel in the floor or find another way? - Meanwhile - 07-12-2020

I watched a few videos on how people have changed sensors on the tops of the automated transmissions by going through the hole where the normal gear shift would be. Mine does not have a cover in this spot to get to the top of the transmission. Is it a bad idea to neatly put one in and make a bolt down cover?

Cut away, I would... Cut the rubber flooring with a sharp utility knife and have at it. Hell, I've pulled all of the under dash panels out, ripped out my sleeper and you name it, I have done it. The truck is a tool, treat it as such. Get a set of floor mats, they make them for our trucks... I have a set of Minimizer floor mats in my ProStar and love them. Pull them out and hose them off... https://www.raneystruckparts.com/searchresults.html?search_query=floor+mats&Search=

Waterloo, you’ve got a great sense of adventure! I actually pulled both seats out today expecting to find access to the transmission. Now that I know how to get it apart I’ll start planning this project. Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm surprised there isn't some access panel hidden away under there. Not only good to access to the transmission, but also good for the rear of the engine too.

I'm working a big plan to gut most of my interior and build my own custom bunk storage and setup. I want the bed area to pull triple duty as an office desk and a bathroom (with shower). All in a 48" sleeper! I've already got a basic layout, just need to work on the specifics of how the bed will move and what kind of supports I'll need and where. HOWEVER, none of this will happen until AFTER I pay for an inframe.

That sounds interesting! I like seeing what you all do custom or not, it helps keep my mind open to find ways to make things better. I don’t sleep in mine enough to customize it much. My big goal now is changing out old sensors and stuff I see listed here.

I gotta ask, what is the first picture?
