do rears have to be shimmed or set lash somehow or you just bolt it on and go?

Not unless you're actually rebuilding and replacing the gears yourself, they are just shove them in with some RTV silcone around the edge.

Yup, red is a good one too. I think black has the most oil resistant design. But they all fall well within the heat range of what the rear will ever see. Just remember too much is too much. A nice thin coating on the mating surfaces is plenty. I prefer to put it on after the rear is up in the hole. I pry the rear out a finger distance and apply it with my finger. But I also used to put it on the rear 1st and slide them in. It just usually ended up with me having to touch up some area's from bumping and wrestling the rear in place.

It all depends on how much room you're working with and the lifting apparatus.
