Just heard back from the dealership. They said it would be $68,000 for a reman motor and them put it in. Someone is smoking some of the good stuff over at that place.

They quoted the motor price as $53,000 dollars and $9,000 in labor.

Could have been worse, they could have installed a turbo... :-)

We call them Stealerships for good reason...

I would call Jerry, Mr Hagg, and tow that tractor down to him. You are in the Carolinas, correct? Mr Hagg is located just south of Atlanta in Griffin GA.

Aight the gentleman emailed me back and said they messed up with the price of the motor. the price of a recon motor is 36k. anyone know of anywhere to get a used motor or recon motor cheaper than 36k?

Honestly, I would tow that tractor to Mr Hagg... More than likely he can save it and the cost will be much less, along with the fact it will be rebuilt properly. Even these crate motors are normally junk, reman head, liners just thrown in an old worn out block, many used parts, many do not make it 70,000 miles.

Is the crank shaft damaged? And if they say it is, I want to see it, because odds are, you need a simple in frame. If the crank is good... Put nothing past these guys, NOTHING.

You said you replaced the high pressure fuel pump?? Where did you get this pump from?

RE: Fmi 157 spn 18 - Hallmanhauling - 08-18-2020

I got the pump from Excel Freightliner in Charlotte. I put it on myself.

I agree, make an appointment with Mr. Hagg (probably be 2-3 weeks, they are pretty busy right now) and get it towed down there. They are really good at cleaning up the mess these pumps can create. They will rebuild the motor right and won't sell you anything you don't actually need. I'm down here in GA right now rebuilding my own engine and the folks there helped me get all the parts I needed at a great price.

9000 to pull a motor and put one back, lol. That's insane.... I found a low mileage day cab and was going to swap motors with mine. But it was sold when I called. But to pull both motors and put one back in, a place I know said 4500. He said it's usually 3000 to pull out and put back in. And I know the place, they do good work. These big shops sure do put it to driver's.
