C13 - GAguy912 - 09-20-2020

What is the major issues with C13? I can find them in various trucks fairly cheap in price. What’s the deal good engine or do they have a major weak point?

One of the companies i help out has 13 tri axle dump trucks all with C13, They seem to be quite reliable but he is also very strict on maintenance.

C13 has the IVA system on it and those are problematic. Not sure but it might have an ARD head if it has a dpf, those are also very problematic and from what I understand you have to have a dealer password to clear related codes so your usually looking at a tow.

I know I asked about C13 but I’ve found two trucks and will purchase one this week. One has C12 and the other 3406 both ten speed transmissions. I’ve climbed alll over the truck with the C12 and it is spotless and runs amazingly smooth and strong. Have not seen the 3406 truck (maybe Wednesday). Have any thoughts on these engines?

If I were you I would go with the C15

Have some old Freightliner Columbia trucks at work with C12. They are not power houses, but they are really good engines.

What year is the C15? Ones with DPF will bankrupt you trying to keep them going. C15 without DPF is a good engine. Even the twin turbo with the IVA are good engines. May have to replace the iva actuator or the wiring harness going to them but other than that good solid engines.

The trucks with the 3406 the dealership is not very knowledgeable about what they have they posted I called and it’s like pulling teeth to get information. They are very clean and maintained but I guess they’ not in a hurry to sale them

The truck with the C12 had rods and mains has no blow by and is like new!
