870 to 871 engine swap in my 2007 international 9400 - Jburks765 - 10-19-2020

Help please! I have a 2007 international 9400 that had a Cummings IXS 870, I installed a 2008 871, someone gave me an ECM, 2008 Peterbilt with an 871. Now everything installed the problem that I am having is finding A wire harness that goes from the ECM two Dash. I obtained a wire harness from 2008 Pro star, but the plug that goes into the far wall we’re different.I’ve called everyone in the US and no one makes a glider style wire harness for International’s. I saw people on an Internet saying that it can be repinned ,But at this point I’m at a loss, any advice or ideas are more than welcome.

Did you try kustomtrucks?

Google search bulkhead connectors till you find the one you have on your current truck. Then just repin it. I can tell you that the bulkhead connectors for that truck are some of the easiest to find.

I'm also not totally positive that the 3 wire throttle position wire are compatible with the cm871 ECM. There may be a few other things that need rewired. Oh and the fact that there is no DOC and DPF on the 07' cm870 means you'll have to have your cm871 ECM properly reprogrammed to run without them

you are aware that the DPF and DOC , etc are required to make that thing legal... the emissions requirements follows the engine not the truck. - If all that stuff was not put onto he truck, One inspection at a scalehouse by the EPA police, carb, maybe even a state trooper ion some states... and your toast@>

Then there is the matter of a proper program if you did not install the DPF, etc... .. 90% of all CM871 delete programs will kill the engine. - If it was not done by one of the top 3 forum members on here, then you'de best be pulling that ecm file and e-mailing to me for inspection to ensure it is not harmful if you value your engine.

just thought you should know the can of worms you have opened there and its legalities. Actually I am surprised you had a shop help you do that so willingly. They are just as liable for doing the work.

Ecm has full delete no egr,def , my issue is trying to make that newer motor to communicate with the dash

Your issue is to also to have the program checked in that ecm to ensure it is not going to tear up that engine too... pull a copy of it out of the ecm and e-mail it to me for inspection.

Does the truck use J1939 for the dash communications? or J1708? This may be a good place to start.

I remember speaking to Unilever's about this before when I was testing my 871 ECM with a 870 ECM. He has said the coolant sensors and throttle pedals and other stuff needs to be re pinned, and I believe he said the Datalink disabled on 870 and enabled on 871 but don't quote me on that.

He would be a good one to talk to but unfortunately I don't think he plays on this forum anymore.

J1708 is a 6 wire diagnostic connector (my 06' 9400i had this) and j1939 is a 9 wire connector.
