CM870 OR CM871 - Bakanka - 04-12-2021 I have visited Haggai’s shop last year for an overhead and perform couple other maintenances on my cm870 565hp CPL8518 2004 Volvo. After they took off valve cover to perform overhead it looked pretty bad cams were beaten up they said it doesn’t worth spending money now recommend me to change cams rockers mains and list goes long story short, the bill was around 15K to make this engine keep running. I did not had money at that time asked for little time. Now I can afford full overhaul again my question is should i invest that much money into cm870 or get a cm871 get it fully rebuild and swap it what would you recommend me. I want to do heavy haul in the future got a low boy sitting at the yard. RE: CM870 OR CM871 - tree98 - 04-12-2021 If it were me I would rebuild the 870, they have a little more longevity because of the air actuated turbo. You could potentially save more money in fuel with an 871 but if you're planning on doing heavy haul I wouldn't think that would matter as much. 870's are tough beasts RE: CM870 OR CM871 - Rawze - 04-12-2021 putting a 871 into truck that is supposed to have an 870 is considered a "glider".. and requires all the CM871 emissions systems to be also installed for it to be legal. I would suggest you stay with the 870 in it.
