tune up - sbtrucking - 02-27-2016 hello fellas, just bought a 2008 volvo 670 with cm870 isx, I ordered parts to do tune up and hope the part numbers will help others, I should have listened to rawze and ran away from this hi miles 1.1 mil truck but after I went for test drive I fell for it. also what other things would ya'll recommend I change before going on the road? I was thinking changing the thermostat also with the fluid[attachment=1154][attachment=1155][attachment=1156][attachment=1157][attachment=1158] RE: tune up - sbtrucking - 02-27-2016 [attachment=1161][attachment=1160][attachment=1159] RE: tune up - sbtrucking - 02-27-2016 [attachment=1162][attachment=1163] RE: tune up - yamajason - 02-27-2016 I have a 1.1M mile truck, "with an inframe rebuild done at 1M miles". Cam has a bad lobe and rocker, now it will cost me $7000 in parts and days of labor to fix. I suggest you pull the Valve Cover and Oil pan immediately and thoroughly inspect your bearings and cams. Find out now if you need to return that truck and renegotiate the deal price. Good Luck! RE: tune up - Waterloo - 02-27-2016 One thing I found on my 2008 ProStar was that the metal lines feeding into the DPF filter were clogged with soot, rendering my tune up questionable, as these lines feed into a sensor(s), which were also clogged with soot under the body at the can. I discovered this sensor and these clogged lines after my tuneup and discovering my DPF was cracked. When I went to remove the can, and tried to unscrew the line connections at the can, they snapped right off at the can body. So, if you attempt to inspect these lines, you have been warned... RE: tune up - Isx Lover - 02-27-2016 Don't forget to do the gear boxes, they probably haven't had the oil changed in them for awhile. RE: tune up - sbtrucking - 02-27-2016 what oil do you all recomend on the rear end and transmission, waht do you think about Schaeffer oil? RE: tune up - Hedley - 02-27-2016 50w Synthetic on the tranny and 75/90 Synthetic on the rears, ...I like Mobil I don't really like a Synthetic blend for the engine...best to go with Delo and add 1 gallon of 75/90 mineral gear oil to help with the viscosity RE: tune up - volvo126 - 02-27-2016 If your doing the "tune up" don't skip one single thing on rawze's list. Also don't try and piece meal it over time as funds become available the old parts you leave on will compromise the ones you replace. I did the "tune p" 1 1/2 years ago and have not even had one check engine light on in that time. mpg increased instantly .6+ recently I pulled those dpf crossover tubes off and they were spotless inside. This is one of those jobs that you must commit 100% to to get 100% out of it |
