871 vgt on a 2350 - Carhauler - 10-14-2021

Just wondering. Can I use a 871 charger on a 2350 without changing tuning?
I’m working on getting the proper charger. Just want to use this for a couple days
Thanks

It does not fit onto the newer engines without some modifications.

People have done it on here. It DOES require the truck to be de-mandated, as the flow is all wrong for the emissions systems to function properly. It also requires custom re-programming of the ecm turbo maps.

Unless you have a specific need for it, it is not recommended .. as it significantly lowers fuel efficiency (about 1 mpg lower is what most people have reported) due to the bigger turbine blades of the 500 series turbo being harder to push around. It also is less responsive by quite a little bit compared the the newer style 400-series that were re-designed for 600+ HP.

Kind of figured all of that. Thanks for the quick reply!

How about the other way around Rawze? A 450 series on a demandated 871?
Pros and cons?

Not considering the costs ... Would likely be a great idea for a hyper-miler with only mid-tiere power levels like me. Fuel efficiency would go up measurably. Otherwise it would over-spool while trying to make enough air flow for 500+ HP on an older 871 to get it to 38+ lbs boost.

Problem is that its costly to do and would take a long time to get a return on it.
