I'm currently lookin at a 2016 pete 386 with a cummins 450, 10 speed and 3.55 rear end ratio. 455k miles. Besides having the shop check the pump head, cam scoring, diff shavings and trans shavings, blow-by and coolant exhaust contamination what else should I have checked mechanically?

Make sure it does not have a bad de-mandate (delete) program in it. 90% of all del. programs tear the engine up or cut its life in half or less.

Ooooo good one ! Should I ask the mechanic to force regen? Just to make sure the emissions equipment is functioning properly.

also look at the regen history in Insite.. make sure the far right column .. all the numbers average up to less than 3.0 inhg.

- Keep in mind that once you get any used truck.. the real fun begins... EGR tune-up.. replacing most of the emissions systems sensors, IMAP sensor replacement, etc.etc.etc.. to get it back to something somewhat reliable again.

++ shock, bushing, cab mounts, and all the other 500k mile maintenance items on a maintenance schedule should be done too ... BEFORE PUTTING IT ON THE ROADS!!!!.

(an example maintenance schedule)...

A person wants to do all the things for a successful start and profitable, trouble free experience .. and NOT just jump behind the wheel like a blind man kind of trucking fool!

About 2 weeks worth of stuffs that no shop or mechanic sis going to do for you at all.

I'm gathering my shopping list of things to do. I'm waiting for the 3rd party mechanic to give me a run down before I invest in a plane ticket out to look and pursue it. So far I have
-fuel pump head rebuild kit (point me in the direction of p/n's needed pls)
- IMAP 2897334
- Delta pressure 4307166
-exhaus pressure sensor 492854
-fluid change (coolant, engine oil, diff oils, trans oil)
- an oil bypass filtration system
-air filter
I could go on with the list but these are my main concerns upfront before even trying to put it to work.
Is there any other place aside from shop.cummins to confirm correct part numbers?
I usually use the esn which is 79852249 but it won't let me find the pump part numbers etc.
My vin is 1XPHD49XXGD349473 if someone could lend a hand in part number searches. Thank you guys!

Open an account on quickserve.com its free. You put in your ESN and you have access to all the same parts and service information that the dealers have.

I have one but it is charging me to access that information. Unless I'm missing something.

It's free for up to 5 different serial numbers, your doing something wrong.

As long as they are genuine Cummins parts they should be ok, you might not have a choice, a lot of parts are hard to come by these days. Seems like these fuel pump parts are getting harder and harder to find all the time. Still cheaper than buying a whole new engine.
