Lengthen Battery Cables Quickly - Waterloo - 10-05-2022

I had my alternator take a dump, and discovered my cables were going to be a bit too short for the new alternator. These are the cables that go through the main harness down to the starter and block, I only need around a half a foot for both the ground and positive and did not want to tear the entire thing apart in a parking lot. I ran up to Home Depot and bought two of these underground wiring splice kits.

I bought two of these, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-Heat-Shrink-Underground-UF-Splice-Kit-HH-UFSK/311129144

That big black tube is very thick heat shrink tube, you need a heat gun to melt this stuff, you won't do it with a lighter.

To connect the new cable to the old stuff, I bought two of these blocks, they fit perfectly in that shrink tube. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-6-AWG-to-4-0-AWG-Dual-Rated-Splicer-G61104/310741755

I filled the blocks with Dialectic grease to hopefully stave off any air and moisture getting to the connection prior to melting the tubing.

If you are in a pinch, and do not want to tear half the motor apart to get to your harness... I'm sure there are other ways, but this is what my pea brain came up with to get the truck up and running.

Hanging in there, truck is still running good... Work is hit and miss, trying to stay local, not really very excited about anything right now.

Throwing some liquid electric tape such as https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-Black-Liquid-Electrical-Tape-4-oz-LTB-400/100119178
On top of the heat shrink would be great.
