07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Cumminsher13 - 05-20-2024 Bought my truck around 2 years ago since then I’ve noticed that whenever it sits over the weekend or longer and I come and drive it it drives like a dream nice and smooth and shifts like butter…then the other days it runs like complete crap…shakey, bouncy and have trouble shifting and seems like it blows more smoke than normal …was going to start throwing parts at it because I just couldn’t figure out what it is…motor mounts? Air leveling valve? Ride height? Then a buddy told me to check out the fuel metering/timing actuators/solenoids when I noticed that the timing ones have two have different numbers stamped on the front…. The first metering one has a number on it and the last one has no number stamped on it….would this be a problem? Do they vary from year to year? Any differences on the insides? Would they change with more or less hp? And help appreciated mine is a 2007 530hp [attachment=9477][attachment=9478] RE: 07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Rawze - 05-20-2024 Just some thoughts on it ... If it does not have a boost gauge, then install one. CM8780's are notorious for boost issues as the turbo arm/ controller starts to get sticky on them. If the boost is falling off or acting up, that could explain the smoke, etc. A 530HP CM870 should be roughly about 37 - 38 psi (38 max) boost sustained under full 100% steady operating load, optimally. Run the overhead valve adjustment on it and then do an injector leak test on it after its warmed up, and has acted up a bit. ref: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=7747&pid=67948#pid67948 Also, actuators can be checked as well: ref: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=110&pid=619#pid619 RE: 07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Cumminsher13 - 05-20-2024 (05-20-2024 )Rawze Wrote: Just some thoughts on it ... Now that you mention boost….it does have a boost gauge and I’ve never really noticed a problem with the boost but I do know that the turbo air control valve under the air compressor is leaking a bit of air on the top side idk what effects that would have RE: 07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Cumminsher13 - 05-20-2024 Leaking from here idk how much it will affect the turbo RE: 07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Benjamin9669 - 05-27-2024 (05-20-2024 )Cumminsher13 Wrote: Leaking from here idk how much it will affect the turbo More than likely it is shot. Most them that leak air are bad. RE: 07 cm870 metering/timing actuators/soleniods - Cumminsher13 - 06-13-2024 (05-20-2024 )Rawze Wrote: Just some thoughts on it ... I finally got some time to take the actuators apart and clean them out the first to seemed like the plunger had a bit more resistance to remove it from the coil and the plunger was loose like unscrewed….hmm and the plate seemed to be more scarred….the back 2 seemed fine to my eyes….but everything back together to the best of my abilities and now the truck seems to have a bigger miss….was I supposed to tighten the first 2 plungers?
