X15 pto regen issues - Oilfield238 - 12-12-2024 Looking for any sort of advise for 3 new trucks. 23 peterbilts with x15s. Oilfield trucks that sit on location for weeks on end in pto mode at 850rpm 24/7. They drive a generator via pto to charge batteries for electric drawworks. They can be plugged into 480 3 phase and run solely off that but shore power is not always available. They also have onboard generators that can be used to run draworks with the x15 off but we’ve been having issues with those so we’ve been having to rely on the x15 in pto mode to run the generator. Manufacturer says we cannot run trucks over 900rpms due too pto ratio and generator. They work fine in the summer. Once winter strikes and we’re below 20° all the way to -40 they will not regen. Pto mode regen is enabled in insight. They will just run till soot load is 250% then auto shutdown. and then need a forced regen. Goes about 2 days and will need another regen again. Trucks are tarped have force air heaters blowing under them. Just looking for any advise to fix this issue other than demaindating them. The one truck face plugged within 200hrs and was fixed under warranty and the other 500hrs. Thanks RE: X15 pto regen issues - tree98 - 12-12-2024 I would say you need to re gear these PTO's to run these trucks at a higher RPM(1500ish). Even with heaters blowing under the truck you'll never get those cans hot enough (at 900 RPM) to passive regen at those extremely low outside temps. Also, are they burning oil or coolant? RE: X15 pto regen issues - Oilfield238 - 12-12-2024 I cant say for sure whether they are or not burning oil as I don’t see these trucks unless there is regen issues as there always out working. They all have low hrs between 500-800hrs I’m sure they probably are wet stacking like nobody’s business in the cold with low load and low rpm’s. I’ll give the manufacturer a call in the morning to see if I can figure out why they ran 170% ptos. RE: X15 pto regen issues - Rawze - 12-12-2024 Have a custom PTO made to run the engines at 1750RPM for the generators and most of those problems will go away. ISX's hate low rpm's (below 1500) ... especially under operating loads. what your doing is like trying to make your lawn mower cut the grass at only idle speed, and then wondering why it tears up the engine. Seems like the best option for sure I’m not sure why the manufacturer/ build of this equipment set these up the way they did I would think they had a reasoning but we’ll see what they say. I’ll report back there reasonings much appreciated |
