Oil brands - Upnorth83 - 02-02-2025

So I’ve seen a lot of different opinions on what oil to use. I’m curious what you guys think. I’ve read about valvoline premium blue, delo 400, rotella, Schaffer, delvac, amsoil, so many brands that claim to be the best. All 15w40. Also does a guy run conventional oil or synthetic oil? I’m just baffled with all the info and advertising out there. How do you actually decide??? What do you believe???

Is that a brand? lol

RE: Oil brands - Upnorth83 - 02-07-2025

I’ve actually been using delvac super 1300 15w40. Because well it’s 13 dollars a gallon at wall mart. And I can get it in five gallon pails. I’m going to start adding the gear lube I like that better than the Lucas honey crap. Thank you for your response. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a a mistake. I change oil between 10 and 12k religiously. So usually once a month if it happen at the beginning of the month sometimes it gets it twice.

you can always do regular oil sampling and see how well its working out for you.

Rawze where do I do oil sampling? Is there a company? I used to go buy the sample kits at cat for my cat engines. Do you have somewhere that you would recommend to do the oil sampling with?

I would say that you can just keep using the cat oil sample kits. Just stay away from sampling from those places that use those stupid quick-sample machines. like speedco, etc.

RE: Oil brands - amermextrucker - 02-09-2025

I was running Chevron Delo 15w40 with 3 qts of Walmart conventional gear oil and 3 bottles ( small) of rislone zinc additive, oil sample where beautiful.

IMHO the 2 best oils on the market are Chevron Delo 15w40 and Rotella 15w40 both in conventional. But like many have said on here pick 1 and stick to it.
