2350 after treatment problems - Jskojo89 - 02-12-2025 Good afternoon, thank you for letting me post. I'm very unknowledgeable when it comes to these emissions motors. I have 2 other isx Cummins 871 motors which were problem free. Actually both motors still run fine, one was totaled in an accident, and the other the frame rails rotted out. But mainly my trucks have Detroits and cats in them. Last week I acquired a 2015 prostar in a deal with dry van trailers I bought. The truck was a lease purchase truck where I personally know both parties. The truck has 700k on it and 20k on a overhaul. The driver told me the truck shorted out and went into limp mode. The truck was in Florida when this happened and was taken to a local shop who had it for 2 weeks and put a new def pump in it and after $8k the owner told them to stop because the problem wasn't getting anywhere near fixed. Waiting on the broke down list to see what was replaced, the last thing they said was it needed a new wiring harness. It sat down there for a year and I went and picked it up last week and towed it back to Pa. Plugged it into Cummins insite and it showed a full page of codes and watching the system live showed no power to multiple parts on the emissions. So far I've checked the fuse panel behind the def tank, and went through some of the wiring without finding anything wrong. Then stopped my self before I dig in to far and wanted to post here being that you guys have a lot more experience with these systems than I do. Thank you. RE: 2350 after treatment problems - Bengy88 - 02-12-2025 Monitor the 5v sensor voltages in insite. I bet one of them has dropped. Unplug each of the sensors that have faults one at the time and see if the voltage comes back RE: 2350 after treatment problems - Jskojo89 - 02-13-2025 Thank you, I'll try that tomorrow when I get back to the shop. I'm battling the flu at the moment lol. I thought it could be something like that, I read this systems can be real touchy. I know the driver had been running it since the overhaul with the check engine light on and never bothered to get it checked. So I'm sure I'm in for all kinds of fun. The story I got so far is the truck originally made it 600k and developed a antifreeze leak, the driver just kept on trucking until it overheated and fried the motor. Had it overhauled, but refused buying a new head. Made it another 80k then it dropped a valve and destroyed everything. So now it has 20k on a overhaul with a new head. Not to mention it's a disgusting mess inside and out. But thankfully I have a donor truck for the interior! Lol RE: 2350 after treatment problems - tree98 - 02-13-2025 Wow, sounds like a job to run away from as fast as you can. RE: 2350 after treatment problems - Jskojo89 - 02-13-2025 There is a nice truck hiding under the mess. And if I didn't have all the spare parts for interior, I would've pulled the motor and transmission and sent it to the scrap yard. I don't mind putting the work into it, just don't wanna get thousands into it and still having the same issues. There is only one way to build an ISX properly. here it is... ref: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=8105&pid=70606#pid70606 There are no shortcuts. There are no cheaper ways to get a reliable result. Aftermarket components do not last nearly as long and/or are just out of spec and cause headaches. Anything less than what is mentioned on that page, and its a repeat of history. RE: 2350 after treatment problems - Jskojo89 - 02-13-2025 Thank you. I did notice the front case leaking oil. I'm going to try and reach out to the guy that overhauled it to see if he has any record of the bores being cut. RE: 2350 after treatment problems - Jskojo89 - 02-17-2025 Today I got some time finally to try a couple things. I had the truck running and also off with the key on. I went through unplugging the sensors 1 at a time then checking the computer to see if any of the voltage change and I didn't noticed any change. Also changed out the fuel pedal because of the pedal code, with no change. And also changed the low coolant level sensor because of the low coolant code, and again no change. RE: 2350 after treatment problems - tree98 - 02-17-2025 If i were you I would demandate the damn thing if you live in a country where that kind of thing is permissible, and put all the emmission related problems to rest. Then you can focus on the rest of the mess. |
