Electrical fault/ abs module
2009 prostar isx

I’ve read a few threads so sorry if I missed it. My truck suddenly shut off while driving, and light came on and lost all power. Let it out of gear and it shut off. I can get it to turn on randomly but rarely. Sometimes it barely gets started and abs light flickers and it shuts off. Screen reads abs module and sometimes electrical fault. When it reads both it’ll only crank. I got it to idle for a good while with no messages, but it only drove for maybe 10 min before it shut off. I don’t even know where to start or if this is something I can look for on my own stranded on side of the road. Already checked fuses, body control module, 100 amps by the firewall, I did have battery cables go bad where the cable was heavily exposed. I’m wondering if I shorted something out. Someone is telling me my ecm is toast. Anyone had this experience before? Am I missing something simple? I’ve gone thru something similar and guys had to reprogram my bcm. Can they reset somehow?

2009 prostar with an ISX?...

That would be a CM871 engine.

It could be the fuel solenoid that has gone bad... you can simply take it off and remove the guts from it, and leaving the gasket, re-installing it to get you off the side of the road.

However, What your describing is more likely to be ...

YES, the CM871 is notorious for the ECM to go bad and cut out like that randomly... especially if no one has replaced the crank shaft damper in the last 500k miles, or 5 years. When the fluid/gel inside the crank shaft damper starts getting hardened, it allows for higher frequency vibrations,.. often taking out the ECM on those engines.

And if it IS the ECM... only get a replacement one from a stealers$it .. and make sure they pre-flash it with your software + restore the truck template before taking it away from them ... hang it on the truck and ensure it cranks/runs ... to ensure you get one that is not dead on arrival, and are out $2,00+ trying to make a return claim.

here is a related threads on how to check for this and other info ...

RE: Electrical fault/ abs module
Ok, so I think with time the positive cable rubbed thru on top of the negative cable and touched the metal part of the negative cable where it bolts down to the battery post. I believe this caused my problem. Did I short my ecm? Is there not a relay or something that protects the ecm?
