I have an ISX 15 CM871, last week the starter went out. Had it replaced, while the dealer had it they called me and said it would crank but not start after they replaced the starter. Before the starter went out, it would fire up easy. So they did a diag, cleaned sensors etc. Ticket shows from insite engine state not changing from stopped to cranking. They sprayed ether in, fired. Insite shows engine state changed and synchronization. Said I was good to go.

So the next morning, the truck would turn over, but not fire. I tried priming 4 times, still nothing. Hit it with a small shot of ether, fired up. About an hour into the drive, got fuel shut truck off. Fired right back up. Went on about the day. The next morning same thing, no fire without a small shot.

So now the only way this truck will fire after sitting over night (or more than 4 hours or so) is a small shot of ether.

The lift pump comes on and I can hear it. Have fuel squirting out of the port on top of the gear fuel pump, but still no fire after sitting without a shot.

Any Ideas? Bad gear pump? Check Valve?

To me its odd this wasn't an issue until they replaced the starter. Not sure what to do guys.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you Rawze. I do have fuel coming from the compucheck on the gear pump.

I've done the ECM check, smacked it 0 issues,

Oil psi moves while cranking

After sitting for more than 4 hours or so, truck wont start without a small shot of ether. Runs after, no codes, no power loss, no rogh idle, no smoke from starting. Before the 4 hours or so is up, truck can be shut off and restarted perfectly fine.ONLY need ether after sitting for 4 or more hours give or take.

Does this sound like it could be the gear pump? Leaning towards changing it out and going from there?

A bad gear pump is a common cause for this.

The fuel water separator sucking air is a common one too if they disturbed it.

So a bad gear pump could be the issue? Even though after the first small ether fire, it will fire normal for a few hours?

Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to learn as much as I can about these engines.

No matter how many time I prime, it wont fire after sitting over night without a small shot, after runs fun, no other issues. Then let it sit for a few hours and wont start again.

sounds like the started they installed is
weak or a voltage drop on ground side or power
side. It cannot turn fast enough to create
heat but with ether it gets hot enough.
Try a new starter after checking amperage draw.
