Flipping in high winds...
A rule of thumb that I thought i would share that many truck drivers do not know about high winds ...

When you are loaded light (below 28k-lbs in a 53-foot trailer), the rule of thumb for driving speeds in high winds is as follows...

== It takes roughly 76-mph cross winds to flip a lightly loaded (and a bit less for an empty) 53-ft trailer on its side standing still. This means whatever the wind speed is plus your driving speed will flip you over.

== This means that when the winds are.. 40+ mph gusts per say ... That you can only drive (76 - 40) = 36 mph speeds safely.

== If the winds are.. 50+ mph gusts per say ... That you can only drive (76 - 50) = 26 mph speeds safely.

--- AS YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET VERY FAR by driving several hours in 40+ or 50+ mph winds. It is going to burn up your clock because you will be crawling at 25 mph or so, and it will be a complete waste to try to drive in that!. - JUST PULL OVER!!! and wait till late night or early morning when the winds calm down, and deliver late. - Believe me,... it is far safer and not worth flipping your truck, OR burning up your clock for pennies on the dollar.

here is the collection of idiots who did not adhere to this rule yesterday...
