Shocked Cm871 tune
Hello this is my first post but I've followed the forums for a while. Had the ecm die on my Volvo last week and with the wealth of information from here I was able to grab the file out of the original and put it into a used ecm.

I'm here because when we got the truck a few years ago it was already demandated and had the vgt turbo swapped out for 60 series Detroit turbo. Truck has always ran rough when first started (engine temp under 150f) and it sounds like its cammed when it idles. I don't think the rough idle is fuel soleniods they all sound like perfectly smooth sewing machines. Anyways since I finally have the file for the truck in hand I was wondering if any of the experts would be willing to look it over and make sure the tune isn't totally awful. Truck has driven fine and beyond the ecm dying recently (was the dreaded 1117 code) we have never had any issues with the motor. Side note yes I know having a vgt turbo would be best if only for better Jakes but for us we just can't justify the cost when the truck works fine as is.

RE: Cm871 tune
The forum doesnt support non VGT turbo on an isx expect cm570. Ive always seen the pos s about reflashing ECM to factory and get back and VGT turbo, but wait for some experience people to reply to post tomorrow.

RE: Cm871 tune
The variable geometry turbo (VGT) is not only used for engine braking but is essential for achieving an optimal air-fuel mixture, reducing turbo lag, improving performance at low RPMs, and preventing overboost at high RPMs.

Regarding costs, I own six units with the same engine, Cummins ISX CM871, of which three had their VGT replaced with a fixed-geometry turbo to reduce maintenance expenses. This was a serious mistake, as fuel consumption increased by approximately 0.5 km/l. and engine life was reduced in all of them.

I am currently working on restoring this critical component, as the fuel savings alone will fully justify the investment.

Oh I don't disagree with any of you about the turbo. Unfortunately this is how the truck was when we bought it. Very difficult to go out and spend $3-5,000 when something functions as is. Maybe if this year is better then the rest have been we can spare the extra cash but there's always something else more important, currently insurance and getting one of the trailer's suspension rebuilt and aligned.

Then shut the truck down and become a company driver until you get some capitol to get your equipment back up0 to its full glory so that you can run your business properly.
