cm2250 swap to cm2350 ok guys , a quick question , my 2013 cm2250 is about done, a buddy of mine has a 2015 cm2350 out of his wrecked truck , 230,000 miles and can get it for little or no $$$$, have been told as long as hp is the same I can swap out , along with engine harness, ecm, and mounts and maybe a sensor or two , and it will work just fine , any input on this would be appreciated for sure , don't wanna have a truck , with newer engine that wont run ,

RE: cm2250 swap to cm2350 assuming that it is "fixed" and your country allows it. You will have to swap a few wires over for the fuel pump relay and you will have to tweak the vgt wiring some as 2250's have a DEF control module that have the terminating resistor internal. you will have to intercept the wiring and add your own terminating resistor for that circuit.

RE: cm2250 swap to cm2350 I have had to help several people who have tried just this ... It has to be custom programmed to get it right. The CM2350 has different injectors, different compression ratio and a whole lot of other things that need to be corrected. - Your friend is mis-informed if he thinks you can just swap 2250 and 2350 engine around like that and the efficiency, fuel mileage, and other things not suffer as a result. _ I have had to do a bunch of them in these last few years for just these problems. there are even a few satealers$its that could not get them right and they were sent to me. - Not even the injector trim math, etc. is the same. RE: cm2250 swap to cm2350 yup that was exactly what I was afraid of .. my buddy wasn't sure of the swap stuff , that's exactly why I was asking , I was pretty sure it probably be more trouble then it was worth, so I guess its back to shopping for a lower mileage cm2250 , they are getting harder to find every day , what year did they stop using the cm2250 ? and would a later year cm2250 work if a person could find one ??

RE: cm2250 swap to cm2350 did i read that wrong? i was under the assumption he was swapping the entire 2350 engine into his truck that used to have a 2250 in it? If your trying to mix match a 2250 and turn it into a 2350 that doesn't work well without heavy custom tuning and im not sure why anyone would do that.

RE: cm2250 swap to cm2350 (just some thoughts for others who might stumble on this later on ...) If he keeps it de-mandated then it is possible w/out re=programming, as long as ecm and wiring harness, etc. was kept with it. - however, the pigtail to the emissions systems might be an issue, as the emissions systems wiring are different. many trucks have terminating resistors for the J1939 in the emissiosn system harness among other things. As per Uni's post: http://rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?t...4#pid52814 Would make for a nightmere down the road at some point in its future if anyone had to "un-do" the de-0mandate though, if the wiring and all was xferred. Either way, it is doable,.. with some tweaking of one type or another depending on if the wiring harness was kept or not. On the average, sounds like it would be cleaner just to inframe what a person has instead though if there was any ways possible. Rawze / Unilevers is correct on the custom tuning to make the swap work as it should. Yes, you can swap the 2350 into the 2250 slot, but I believe the ECM on the 2250 has 2 wiring harnesses coming from the truck whereas the 2350 has 3....so the ECM from the 2250 would have to run the 2350 engine. This is exactly how my situation ended up as Rawze referenced. The engine will run and probably haul freight (although I don't know how long). Once Rawze explained the differences to me, I was skeptical about driving it to the compound much less putting any weight behind it. There are many significant differences that will effect reliability, MPG, efficiency, engine life, etc.... However, with the proper tuning as suggested, it will work very well. After over 100k on mine, it's been great. MPG has averaged just over 8.5 over the last 100k (although I can't seem to get it back to what it was last summer---hopefully that's just the weather all over the place down here). I would imagine if one could get a stellar deal on the engine and did the proper procedure to ensure long service life, you could come out way ahead. Of coarse, I'd have to compare an inframe cost to the replacement cost to be sure you'll be ahead financially with minimal headache.
