X15 swap with isx 2250 problems.
Hello all. I’ve had a client with a 2019 Peterbuilt take out his x15 2350 I believe and install a 2014 isx 2250 into the truck. Had it running but some trouble. First off the vgt is stuck and won’t communicate. Showing 0 volts on insite and when I unplug vgt it won’t show any codes. Nothing at all coming up. Unplug and plug back in with no codes. Second when trying a hysteria test it comes back bad communication. I’m using a paccar adapter to get my insite to work so am thinking it could possibly be the j1939 being backwards is the problem. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Also no it was not my idea, not sure why he didn’t rebuild x15, just a problem I am now dealing with. Thanks in advance.

first... not that I would recommend downgrading the engine like that, as it is a PITA ... but ... The original ecu and wiring harness from the X15 engine both should have been re-used. It is already wired and programmed for the make/model vehicle, and an X15 ecu has no issues running the older cm2250 engine after some re-programming.

and NO, the X15 injectors should NOT be moved over (which would create lots of secondary issues) ... because YES, the X15 ecu is fully capable of running the older CM2250 injectors and other hardware after some re-programming.

I.E.> The ecu and engine wiring harness off the original engine should have been re-used and put onto the cm2250 engine.

- The X15 turbo will however need to be moved over, as it is a different technology than the older CM2250 turbo.

Other sensors that do not plug in will need moved over as well. I think there is a fuel rail pressure sensor or something that is incompatible if I am not mistaken.

From that point, a custom program can be made to run that older engine with that newer ecu. The program matching the original ecu (x15 ecu in this case), as if engine was not swapped, that belongs to the truck according to engine ser#, etc. not altered or deleted, etc.. factory stock that belongs to the original engine, needs to be copied from the ecu and e-mailed to me.

The engine ser# for the old engine is needed, and the engine ser# for the replacement engine is also needed.

With the program copied out + both ESN# info, all of that e-mailed to me, then I can edit the original program that belongs to the truck, to run the replacement 2250 block.

RE: X15 swap with isx 2250 problems.
Thanks for the input Rawze. I’ll talk with this guy and see what he wants to do. I’m sure right now he will be looking for fastest and easiest solution. I should have mentioned that he had bought a harness from some outfit that builds convert harness’s for this engine to work in this truck. That being said could we not just program the current 2250 ecm to work with this truck. As far as I can see right now everything else is reading and working. If not then we can swap the ecms and harness back to the original and change that program. Also I believe that the original ecm was demandated, would that matter.
