Take the truck in for a specific item and everything but gets changed, almost sounds like the government runs this shop.

The real kick in the teeth came a while later when his normal mechanic back home who worked for Finning told him for about $2000 less than he paid for 2 dodgy inframes he could have had a factory reman B block CAT installed ready to run.

That is the clear difference between taking your truck to someone who cares and is an actual specialist, and someone who does not. Anyone can make a mistake, anyone. ... it is what a person does AFTER the mistake that counts the most. Someone with integrity will stand behind what they do,.. someone without any will always pawn it off onto someone else.



I cannot count how many people i have met who bragged they only paid 12,000 for an inframe on their ISX, only to find out all they got was an overhaul kit ($4100) and rod/main bearings($800), and nothing more at all. $12,000 - $4900 = $7,100 in labor? -- thats more than $177/ hour. -- Really -- did they actually save money? -- NOPE!.

I totally agree with you. Sooner or later the labor rate will be more than the market can bear. I would chance doing my own inframe if my labor was that high. I have a friend who just inframed his engine. He went to the dealer and got a price of $10k for the kit.....went elsewhere and got it for less than $5k. You just have to shop around. At this point I dont care much about a warranty as much as a shop standing behind their work. I believe towing ur truck back to that shop is better than taking it to a "K Mart" shop where they will patch ur truck back together with overworked parts changers.
