RE: Conmet preset hubs (rear axles)... For sleeved hub bearings, the torque is 250 ft-lb. Then tightened to the next locking notch on the nut, a max of 300 ft.lbs or so. For non-sleeved hubs, they typically get tightened to 300 ft-lbs to seat the bearings, then backed off, then re-torqued to roughly 75 ft-lbs. Hubs should have a bit of resistance when turning them by hand after a bearing install or re-torque. They should have about 0.001 - 0.002 pre-load on them ... which will wear in after running them for a few thousand miles. Personally, I am not a fan of non-sleeved bearings. This is because they do not protect the axle itself from getting chewed up if the bearings get loose. A lot of expensive damage can occur. Did you verify all the axle sleeves were present on the ones that you say were under-torqued? User's Signature: ->: What I post is just my own thoughts and Opinions! --- I AM Full Of S__T!. | |||
