(just some thoughts for others who might stumble on this later on ...)

If he keeps it de-mandated then it is possible w/out re=programming, as long as ecm and wiring harness, etc. was kept with it. - however, the pigtail to the emissions systems might be an issue, as the emissions systems wiring are different. many trucks have terminating resistors for the J1939 in the emissiosn system harness among other things. Would make for a nightmere down the road at some point in its future if anyone had to "un-do" the de-0mandate though, if the wiring and all was xferred.

Either way, it is doable,.. with some tweaking of one type or another depending on if the wiring harness was kept or not.

On the average, sounds like it would be cleaner just to inframe what a person has instead though if there was any ways possible.
