Mainly the previous owner's abuse and maintenance will determine the future of any engine for the most part. Things like application, rear-end ratio, average engine load and rpm, fuel mpg, etc. will typically paint the picture of how a truck has been treated.

If you had access to the ECM, there would be some good info to analyze for help with making your decision.

Regardless of use, it is highly recommended that the high pressure fuel pump internals be replaced before 400k or equivalent hrs...they are detrimental when those components fail.
